Risepal Terms of Use

These terms apply to Risepal: Buddy Alarm Clock ("Risepal", "the app") and its website, made by Workaholic Developers ("we", "us"). By using Risepal you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. The app

Risepal is an alarm clock with tones, wake-up missions, a morning briefing, sleep sounds and optional social features (buddies, nudges, voice tones, group alarms and parent mode). It is free during launch, with every feature available and no ads. If we ever introduce paid features, we will say so clearly in the app and the store listing first; nothing you already use will start charging you without your consent.

2. Alarms depend on your phone

Alarms are scheduled by your phone's operating system, not by our server, so they ring without a network connection. Whether an alarm sounds also depends on things we don't control: your OS version and settings, permissions (for example AlarmKit, notifications, exact alarms or full-screen alarms), Focus and Do Not Disturb, battery optimisation, the ringer volume and silent switch, a flat battery, a phone that is switched off, OS updates and device faults.

Please keep your phone charged, keep the volume up, run the in-app reliability check after installing and after OS updates, and use a second alarm for anything you cannot afford to miss (a flight, an exam, medication). We are not liable for missed or late alarms, or for anything that follows from them, to the extent the law allows.

3. Your buddies account

The social features use an anonymous account bound to your device. You are responsible for what you send through it. You can delete it at any time in Settings → Buddies account → Delete (see the privacy policy).

4. Acceptable use

Nudges, voice notes and voice tones are for friendly wake-ups. You agree not to use Risepal to:

  • harass, threaten, bully or intimidate anyone, or send hateful, sexual or violent content;
  • impersonate someone, or pick a display name that misleads or offends;
  • record or send someone's voice without their permission, or send content you have no right to share;
  • spam people with nudges or invites, or try to get around rate limits;
  • use parent mode to watch anyone other than your own child, or anyone without their knowledge;
  • probe, overload, reverse-engineer or interfere with our server, or access other people's data.

If someone bothers you, mute or unpair them in the app, and tell us at the address below. We may remove content and suspend or delete accounts that break these rules.

5. Content you send

You keep the rights to the messages and recordings you send. You give us the limited permission we need to store and deliver them to the people you send them to, for as long as described in the privacy policy. Recordings you make of other people's voices need their consent.

6. Weather and other information

Weather data comes from MET Norway and is provided as is. Forecasts can be wrong; don't rely on them for safety decisions. Quotes and affirmations in the briefing are written for Risepal and are not professional advice.

7. Availability and changes

We work hard to keep the server running, but the social features and weather may sometimes be unavailable, and we may change or retire features. Your alarms keep working on the phone when the server is down.

8. Disclaimer and liability

Risepal is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. Our total liability for any claim relating to Risepal is limited to the amount you paid us for it (nothing, during launch). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app before it applies. Using Risepal after that means you accept the new terms.
